Interesting to see that last wednesday the 5th of December the new law about animals (especially domestic) was implemented… “los animales son considerados en España seres sintientes” is a big part of this as it means they are no longer classified as a piece of furniture but a sentient being and his comes with a lot of legal rights that a person has (us also being sentient?) 🙂 …..

No killing without just reason, no use of wild animals in circuses and the prohibition of pet shops selling puppies and kittens etc etc….
So far bulls for fighting and farm animals for human consumption are not included in the list of sentient beings… No surprise there…

And, after some fighting and confusion, it seems that hunting dogs and farm dogs ARE included in the list….. Last weeks protest by farm workers (but mostly the hunting fraternity) amazed me with the list of demands. So we must not educate our children in a negative way about hunting and the hunters should be allowed to hunt in protected national parks as they wish AND use lead shot in wetlands. Oh and they don’t believe that turtle doves or thrushes need to be protected… (Who eats them any way? or do they just shoot them and leave them dead on the ground????
1. Retirada inmediata del proyecto de la Ley de Protección y Derechos de los Animales y del Real Decreto Ley de Núcleos Zoológicos.
2. Vuelta de la caza a los parques nacionales
3. Recuperación de la caza del lobo y de la tórtola.
4. No inclusión de la perdiz, codorniz y el zorzal como especies amenazadas en la lista roja de la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (UICN)
5. Defensa por parte del Gobierno de los derechos del setor cinegético ante la legislación europea
6. Permitir la munición de plomo probibida en la caza en humedales
7. No adoctrinar a los niños contra la caza en los colegio

Its like they dont know that thrushes are migratory? And lead shot? Ridiculous.

I am amazed that the hunters here in Spain want to bring back the use of lead shot! (Though I am sure it is still being used anyway in many places). Lumping perdiz in with thrush species is ridiculous as well.
