Someone brought to my attention an article about prickly pears being a super food for the future…. It’s shame that 90 percent of the higo chumbos inn Spain have been wiped out by the cochinilla!

It seems the main reason that the higo chumbo in Spain was simly left to succumb to this cochinilla is because it is classified as an introduced invasive plant and as such does not get any protection…. (Even though it has been here for 500 years)
