Work seems to be moving forward with the Iberian lynx reintroduction project for the the region of Aragón. Perhaps most interesting, is that the region of Los Monegros (once earmarked for Donald Trumps Las Vegas style casino city) seems to be one of the areas chosen as an ideal habitat!
The proposal suggests establishing two new populations through initial reintroduction efforts. The Alcubierre mountain range to the north of the Ebro (Los Monegros) and the Huerva basin to the south of the Ebro are envisioned as potential population centers.

More good news for the Iberian Lynx -up to 2021 in last census.
The recovery programme for the Iberia Lynx has been truly amazing – it was really in the last chance saloon. It’s a shame its success is not so wildly know. It would help to give impetus and encouragement to plans to help bring back other animals from the brink.
In 2007 Clive organised a visit for forum members to see Jerez Zoo’s breeding programme. An amazing opportunity! But back then numbers were very low and success was not guaranteed. Brilliant to see how this story continues.

2007? Was it really that long ago? eeekkk 🙂
Is the 2023/4 report published then SteveT? I haven’t seen it anywhere?
I did write about the 2022 report that came out in 2023 here: https://wildsideholidays.co.uk/iberian-lynx-news-roundup-2023-positive-census-results-and-conservation-efforts/
I must admit I have been working on other projects recently and might have missed any lynx updates….

I just had a quick look and see that the official life website for the lynx is still showing 1668 and only has numbers published up to 2022…. Where, I wonder did the article you linked to, SteveT, get the new figures from?

Ok….. I got it! 🙂
the reason is that the website for life lynx only has the census on its English language pages up to 2021……. Sigh! So all the links from other English language articles about the subject lead to old census…
Here is the link to the 2023 cencus in Spanish. https://lifelynxconnect.eu/censos/
Try switching to English on the above page and you will see what I mean.
