The terrible fires across Spain so early in the year are fairly worrying. And, some of the comments from politicians about the subject are, quite frankly, absurd… The fire in the Sierra de Culebra destroyed 30,000 hectares and is the biggest fire in the history of Spain since records began.
Según el presidente de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, el fuego “fue culpa de la naturaleza”.
Es una mala señal que el consejero de Medio Ambiente, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, considere que mantener el operativo antiincendios todo el año es “absurdo y un despilfarro”

I don’t understand, everyone you speak to about this subject agrees that the best fire fighting is done during the winter months clearing and cleaning…. Also grazing animals are of course obligatory.
So sorry to hear about the Sierra de Culebra….. 30,000 hectares? That’s an area bigger than many entire natural parks…. So sad….

Incendios activos durante la ola de calor de junio de 2022
Varios fuegos se mantienen activos a lo largo de distintos puntos de España en medio de la ola de calor que comenzó el pasado fin de semana. Provincias como Lérida, Navarra o Zamora registran incendios activos que afectan a miles de hectáreas.
La información del espectrorradiómetro de imágenes de media resolución (MODIS, por sus siglas en inglés), que viaja a bordo del satélite Terra de la NASA, ha registrado más de una decena de incendios en España en las últimas 24 horas.
El mapa incluido aquí representa los incendios activos captados por las bandas de este sensor, capaces de detectar distintas longitudes de onda. Este tipo de datos se emplean por los servicios de emergencia de todo el mundo para crear mapas activos de incendios y monitorizar hacia dónde se mueven los fuegos en su evolución.
