After writing the article about the invasive red eared terrapin populating many Spanish ponds and streams I thought I would find out if there have been any more non native terrapin species found in the past….. Anyway, hers the article about the slider…..
An invasive species, the red-eared terrapin (Trachemys scripta elegans), also known as the red-eared slider, red-eared slider turtle, red-eared turtle, slider turtle, and water slider turtle, is a semiaquatic terrapin belonging to the family Emydidae.

It seems that Chelydra serpentina or the Common snapping turtle has been classed as an invasive species in France for quite some time and I have just come across this 2021 article in the Olive Press about a capture in the Huelva province in Spain.
Olive press article here: https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2021/03/30/dangerous-exotic-turtle-found-in-spains-huelva/
Un ejemplar vivo de tortuga mordedora (Chelydra serpentina), de aproximadamente medio metro de longitud, ha sido hallado estos días por agentes de Medio Ambiente en un paraje natural próximo al núcleo turístico de El Portil.

The Chinese stripe-necked turtle (Ocadia sinensis) has been available in pet shops since 1997 in Spain and as early as 2002 was recognised as a huge risk to native species due to its capability to hybridize easily with Mauremys leprosa.
They seem to be quite widespread, especially across andalucia and thinking on it I am sure I saw one in the Sierra de Grazalema last year!

I just came across this image (https://www.facebook.com/mari.bichos.5) to help identify three of the invasive Graptemys species that can now be found living in the wild in Spain.
