Not the first time I have signed a petition to protect Doñana over the last few years! Its disgraceful and looks like the EU are threatening Spain again with fines etc for not protecting the environment that is funded by millions of euros of EU money…

There is a lot of opposition but the Junta de Andalucía seem hell bent on letting the law change to legalise many of the now illegal water extraction practices…
Por todo lo expuesto, lamentan que el Parlamento de Andalucía haya dado luz verde a la tramitación de un plan para la modificación de zonas de regadío del entorno de Doñana y aumentar la superficie legal de riego, a pesar de la oposición del Gobierno Central, el organismo de la cuenca hidrológica, las organizaciones ecologistas, sociales y políticas, buena parte de los agricultores afectados y las advertencias de organismos internacionales.

23 agri-food companies and supermarkets, including Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury’s and Tesco. Juan José Carmona, of the WWF, said companies “buy large quantities of strawberries and other red fruits from the region, and they consider the current Special Plan constitutes an important tool to guarantee more sustainable crops”.
