A Former Lecturer at the Open University who studied at Charlotte Mason College and Geoscience/Geology at The Open University.
And, someone who seems to know an awful lot about geology! 🙂
The image is of Iznajar in Cordoba province. The village itself is situated on top of a huge rocky outcropping overlooking the Embalse de Iznájar, the largest reservoir in AndalucĂa.
As for the Geology of the area we can only hope that the author of the photo explains something in a comment below this one 🙂

They are amazing crags, aren’t they? Close up they are sandstone and, from memory, very limey – the grains are cemented together by calcium carbonate.
They date back to around 7 or 8 million years ago when there was a series of lakes here, north of the mountains. Some lakes were freshwater, some linked to the Mediterranean.
